Description
The third part of the Blauwnet route takes you from Coevorden to Emmen. Along the way you cycle through Nieuw-Amsterdam and further you can enjoy vast meadows and agricultural areas. A wonderfully quiet area to cycle through.
Cycling along the canal
The train station in Coevorden is the starting point of this route. Nearby you will also find the H Design Hotels Kasteel Coevorden. Explore the historic centre of this fortified town and see all the special sights from times gone by. From the historic centre of the city you cross the city moat and then follow the Stieltjeskanaal out of the city. This canal was constructed between 1880 and 1884 to promote shipping. The canal runs all the way to the Verlengde Hoogeveensche Vaart in Nieuw-Amsterdam. On the way to Nieuw-Amsterdam you will make a detour through the beautiful polder landscape, where you can enjoy the ultimate peace and quiet of nature.
Taking a break in New Amsterdam
When you arrive in Nieuw-Amsterdam you can take a break at Eetcafe Foodmaster De Viersprong. Time for a nice lunch and something to drink, so that you can continue cycling with fresh energy. You cycle past the station of Nieuw-Amsterdam out of the city, in the direction of Emmen.
The former esdorp Emmen
Before you enter Emmen, you will pass the Grote Rietplas, an artificial recreational lake with nice beaches around it. Then you will get to know the cozy Emmen. This city is also sometimes called the'open, green city\\\' because of the special structure of the city. Emmen was originally an esdorp on the sand ridge the Hondsrug. The city is surrounded by peat areas.
